Small Business Spotlight: Continuing The Legacy

Norsemen Realty Team, which was previously part of Norsemen Insurance, first opened in January 2000. Rich and Marian Olive first started the company until it was later sold to Tyler Frederiksen in 2016. The business is a member of the Ames Multiple Listing Service, which means that their agents can show their clients any house listed by any Realtor in the surrounding area. In March of 2017, the business partnered with Friedrich Iowa Realty and became the Norsemen Realty Team. "I wanted to keep real estate local for this community. Rich and Marian created a strong business with great customer service and a great reputation, and I wanted to carry that on," Tyler explained.

Tyler's relationship with Reliance State Bank followed right along through the Olive's footsteps, "Rich and Marian's time with RSB goes back to 1971 and since I became owner of Norsemen Realty Team, I have remained an RSB customer. They are helping to finance the Larson Heights Subdivision that Friedrich Iowa Realty and Norsemen Realty Team are partnering in (which is just north of the Roland-Story Elementary School in Story City)."

Tyler especially loves owning the business in Story City because of the community feel, "Story City is where I was born and raised. I didn't think that after college I would end up coming back to my hometown, but I have not regretted one minute of it. I love this community and the people, and it gave me a chance to use my past relationships to help run the business."

However, the relationship between the Norsemen Realty Team and Reliance State Bank goes deeper than business, "The one thing that I love about Reliance State Bank is the people," Tyler explains. "They are all friendly whether you see them in the bank or out in the community. I am also the President of the Story City Economic Development Corporation in Story City, and Erik Oleson is on that board and Rick Schreier serves as a liaison. Volunteering in these capacities is one thing that the staff of Reliance State Bank does extremely well."

Tyler is a dedicated member to Story City appreciates the way RSB and Norsemen Realty Team values the community, "It's nice knowing we have the same passion for this community, always looking for ways to make it a better place to live and work."
